Q: Boot camp Win 7 0x34 blue screen when starting windows after restore with system image.

The hard disc on the Macbook pro had been repartioned, all boot camp and other drivers updated and Windows installed from the installation DVD. All available Windows updates from 2012 (installation disc is from 2012) until today were installed and Boot camp 5.1 with all its drivers installed. Restoring was started with a system repair disc and system image from an external hard disc. Once Windows loads after the log-in screen, it crashes. A blue screen appears with the error code 0x00000034 and mentioning cache_manager.... Windows restarts itself and I can only use it in safe mode which means that I can neither download nor install upgrades or programs.

Analysing the dmp-file from the first crash with Windows Debugger Tool showed that the problem seems to lie with

AppleHFS.sys and svchost.exe, with Bug Check 34 {107, ffffffffc0000420,0,0}.

Here is the link to the complete analysis of the dmp file for further details:

Many thanks in advance for your help

I unsuccessfully tried to run Gparted. I tried both the most recent version that I could find (gparted-live-0.26.1-5-i686-1) and then a version explicitly labeled for x64 systems when the first one failed to boot. The second one (gparted-live-0.24.0-2-amd64) failed also. Both advised to look for a correct version on the gparted website but now I'm kind of at a loss as to what version to look for. Is there an alternative to gparted?

Did you use Method D on this link - http://gparted.org/liveusb.php ?

This - http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html - also has GParted on the live distribution.

I got the same problem with the USB stick. Or maybe it's not necessarily a problem but since everywhere people write that you should see the partition screen immediately, I assumed something's going wrong. Here are the screens that I got:

    Start screen.png

    Error screen.png

    Keymapping screen.png

At the last one I was honestly too afraid to do anything since I wasn't prepared for it.

Continue with the current selection. If you keys do not work properly, you can power down your Mac and start over again.

I'm currently using Gparted to resize the partition, it takes around 2 hours to do it. I'm gonna wait for it to finish, then I'm going to bed to continue tomorrow, just to let you know.

It should not take two hours, but we can check in the morning.

I completed the operation in Gparted and when I inserted the Windows installation DVD, under repair options, it didn't show me the C: partition but the box was completely blank. Likewise, when I tried to boot into Windows, a black screen appeared saying "Missing operating system". If I have to reinstall Windows again and use the system image, will I have the same problem with the partition size as before?

At system repair options, I clicked on "load drivers" and in the subsequent window i clicked on "computer" just to see what's there. The C: partition is there with all it's content (it now has the desired size of 372 GiB) and there is also a Boot partition called X: (size 33,5 MiB, 2,4 MiB used). I'm not going to do anything yet, since I don't even know where to look for any drivers that would help Windows recognize the C: partition again.

I'm not going to do anything yet since I don't know what drivers to look for to make Windows Installation DVD recognize the partition again.

This looks as expected. Can you chkdsk on this new C:? You also need to re-build the MBR.

    Please post the output of

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

As already stated, Windows Install DVD can't find the C: partition, but when I continue to the system repair options anyway and specify C: in the chkdsk /f command, it can perform said command without problems. chkdsk /f tells me that there are no problems. When I try to do bootrec /fixmbr, it completes in about one second saying that the task is completed. When I try bootrec /fixboot, it tells me that it can't find any recognizable data system on the volume and that I should make sure to load any available drivers and check that the volume isn't damaged.

The command line I use looks like this: X:\Sources>bootrec /fixboot

Did you /rebuildBCD? The Bootrec.exe command is correct.

Can you also post the the two outputs? We need to ensure the MBR and GPT match? Can you see Windows files in OSX Finder?

The command /rebuildBCD has successfully found a Windows Installation and now asks me if I want to add it to the start list. Should I type (Y) Yes? I'm just asking because my nerves are running thin, I'm sorry if I come across as an insecure noob.

I will post the two outputs as soon as I am on my mac partition.

Take your time. There is no need to cause further problems. You will need to type yes. Please ensure you are on C: drive.
