Q: iPod Nano "FireWire connections are not supported..."

Tonight, I spilled a bit of tea and I think some got into the charging port (is that what it's called? I don't really care at this point) of my 2nd gen iPod Nano (I'm clumsy af. don't judge me.), and now it keeps giving me a message saying "FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided." These two things may be unrelated, seeing as, when I tried to find help, I noticed someone had the same issue under different circumstances, but I have a feeling that isn't the case, considering the message had never appeared in all the time I've owned the iPod until I realized there was probably tea in the charging port.

Is there a way to stop/prevent this error message?

And additionally, how can I clean the charging port without damaging the device?

    Hello blastoisestolemysocks,

I totally understand that you may be bummed out with spilling tea on your iPod's charging port! The error you are experiencing can very well be related to this spill. The very best resolution would be to have the device evaluated for any liquid damage at your local Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider. Thanks for using Apple support communities for help.
