Q: flashing amber light unable to connect or reset

I have read 100 amber light posts but have not come across my predicament as of yet.

Flashing amber light on my 1470 time capsule.

It will not connect to utility

It will not reset in any form

it has been cleaned, its not overheating, it has a solid modem connection when turned on.

I have read the possible reasons for issues but without connectivity i can't even troubleshoot at this point.

Very expensive paperweight?

Thankyou

Matt

Have you tried using the reset button at the back? I believe that the orange light is a configuration problem - I get it on mine when the network has changed and there is a configuration problem.

I have used a soft reset which then resets the SSID or connect via a cable and lets me run the utility again to reset config.

It will not reset in any form

If you are saying that the Time Capsule is powered on, and you hold in the reset button on the back for 7 to 8 seconds, and you see that the amber light will not begin to flash rapidly after holding the button for the 7 to 8 second hold period, then the reset button is broken.

If the reset button is broken, all that you can do at this point is open up the Time Capsule and try to repair the button.

Hi bob thxs for the reply

The reset button must be broken...

I took the hard drive out today and started it up. I have been told that it may still run as a wifi unit if the hard drive is defective.  Turns out there are no changes.  Still won't reset, still won't connect to utility and continues to flash amber.

Any other ideas, please let me know.

    Matt

If the reset button is broken, nothing will work.  All that you can do is try to repair the reset button.

Was the issue  caused by damage when you opened it? ie was it ok before you opened it the first time?

The connection on the board is very tricky to put back correctly. Take a bit of time to make sure the connector is fully seated.

Is it flashing quickly or slowly.. ?

A fast flash continually means that the reset is shorted.. and the TC will never start up. A slow flash is usually just a problem with setup.

    How old is TC?

Apple will replace it under applecare if you have any if it is up to 3 years old.. and your opening the base did not damage it.
