does Photos import iPhone-edited photos - or just the originals?

i'm new to Photos and trying to work out if or how Photos can import an iPhone-edited photo.

it seems it's imported some of my edited photos, but on others it's only imported the original.

maybe there is a setting i need to adjust to ensure it does it all the time?

any tips would be appreciated, thanks.
