Question

iOS 9.3.4 Calendar alert tone not switching off

Since upgrading my iPhone 5S to 9.3.4 I cannot turn off the tone alert for a calendar event.

I have a Gmail calendar synced on my phone and all my Calendar notifications are set as follows:

Show in Notification Center > ON

Sounds > None (both alert tone and vibration are set to None)

Badge App Icon > ON

Show on Lock Screen > ON

However, at the reminder time for a Calendar event, I receive a Lock Screen alert AND a "Chord" chime. I also tried switching off all Reminders notifications but to no avail, there is simply no way to turn sound alerts in Calendar. This was not the Calendar behaviour on 9.3.3. Am I missing something?

Another thing I discovered after the upgrade is that captions below buttons on call screen are now underlined. Is this due to the upgrade or some other setting?

Hello and thanks for your effort. I tried both but they didn't work. However, I did found the solution:

it seems that Settings > Sounds > Calendar Alerts overrides the Settings > Notifications > Notification Style > Calendar. By selecting None in Settings > Sounds > Calendar Alerts the tone is muted.

Hello John,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having an issue with notifications is not what you expect. If I understand correctly, you are getting a calendar sound notification even though you have that setting turned off. It sounds like you have tried adjusting some settings already, so here is what I suggest to resolve this issue:

1. First, turn off the Notifications options for Calendar, then restart your device as the shut down and start up process is important to keep the iOS software running properly. Turn on the proper Notifications options and test this again:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

2. If you're still experiencing the same behavior, I would suggest backing up your personal data, and then Reset All Settings from Settings > General > Reset on your device. This resets all of your device’s settings like Notifications, which will need to be setup again after you test your Calendar issue again.
