Q: Unable to Overcome error - "The Startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition"

Hello!

I am attempting to install Windows on my iMac (late 2013, running 10.11.6) with no success.  I have created the ISO on a flash drive, but when I attempt to use the Boot camp Assistant, I am remitted to the following screen:

I did my best to investigate solutions. The cause, per apple's support discussions, is that there is an alternate partition preempting (stopping) the boot camp assistant from partitioning the hard drive.  I investigated the partitions on my hard drive after disconnecting all peripheral devices and found this:

This shows the main partition: Macintosh HD, the bootcamp partition: BOOTCAMP; and 2 unknown partitions: "Apple HDD ST100DM003 Media" and the same ***M004.  I was able to delete the first Apple HDD ST100DM003 partition, and ran first aid on the fusion drive after the second one would not delete.  I also cannot delete the boot camp partition.  I continue to get the same message when I attempt to install windows on a partition of the Fusion Drive using Boot Camp Assistant - "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition".

Any suggestions??

Can you run the Disk Utility partition creation test?

I think it is time to rebuild the fusion drive.  I've spent all of my knowledge base on this and done everything I can think of to attempt to get over this hump, but first aid and diskutil functions all call the drive good to go, but when attempting to create any new partition on the fusion drive, I get error messages thrown.  This includes when I attempt to do so through BCA...

If you don't mind passing instructions on the appropriate Fusion Drive restructure, that'd be awesome.

FYI, the following error message gets thrown when I attempt new partition creating (specifically for MS-DOS(FAT) format)

The third line of the error is what I expected. Can you post a text version of diskutil cs list output, so I can provide the exact commands?

The other option is to use Re: Partition BootCap on DD 3To Fusion Drive: A methode as a reference and remember to use the SSD as the first disk.

    1. Boot into Internet Recovery.

    2. Erase Macintosh HD LV - diskutil cs deleteVolume 7302EC98-A25A-4DF1-AA46-7FE51F610044

    3. Erase Macintosh HD LVG - diskutil cs delete B90ABFA2-5157-4641-A43D-AC19A0765761

    4. Please ensure disk0 is your SSD and disk1 is your HDD, otherwise modify commands to reflect the correct disks.

Erase SSD - diskutil eraseDisk jhfs+ SSD disk0

    5. Erase HDD - diskutil eraseDisk jhfs+ HDD disk1

    6. The order should be SSD first, HDD second. Create a new CS LVG - diskutil cs create OSX-MacintoshLVG disk0s2 disk1s2

    7. Use the long string from step 6 (UUID). Create a new LV - diskutil cs createVolume <LongStringHere> jhfs+ "Macintosh HD" 100%

    8. Restore your TM backup.
