Q: OS X 10.10.6 Server 4 (Build 14S333) - File Permissions

I am running Server 4 (Build 14S333) on a Mac Mini running 10.10.6. I have File Sharing turned on with a top level folded called Shared. The built-in Everyone group has Read / Write permissions. These permissions are pushed down to all subfolders and files.

My clients are all iMac's running 10.10.5 or 10.11.5. We are using Office 365 for hosted email and Office licensing. We are using Office 2016 for Mac's.

The issue I am having is anytime a user opens an Excel Spreadsheet and then with Saves or Saves As, it changes the permissions on the file stored on the server. The user that saved the file, now has Read / Write permissions and the Everyone group has No Access permissions. The admin then needs to push permissions back down to the file so someone else can open it.

This only happens with Excel files. Word and PowerPoint work fine with out any issues.

Any ideas what is happening and how to resolve?

That folder needs an Access Control List (ACL) added and propagated to all descendants that enforces the correct file permissions, or new files will get what Microsoft Word says for permissions (and Word is an idiot about permissions).

Straightforward to add it with Server, awkward-to-impossible with Finder.
