Q: imovie for iOS iphone 6 iMovie "some of the videos in this project must be downloaded from the cloud"

error.jpgHelp!  I love editing videos on my iPhone 6, but suddenly when I try to edit a movie in the "projects" folder on my phone, i get an error message everytime that says "some of the videos in this project must be downloaded from the cloud."  Fine.  Okay- no big deal, I've gotten that message before.  But it's nearly every clip in the timeline, and worst of all... they never finish downloading, so I can't access them.  I'm talking they won't even download when I leave it alone OVERNIGHT.

I've looked everywhere I can think of that is somehow cloud-ish (?!!?) to no avail.  I have no idea where these clips are and why this is happening now when it never has before.  At this point I don't even care-- I just want to download the clips and store them on my phone instead of the cloud, so I can finish editing this very time sensitive video.

I appreciate any help you all can give me. Thanks!  -- Mary B.

    Good Afternoon, Mary -

Thanks for your question.  It sounds like you have some videos that are not stored on your iPhone that you would like to edit with iMovie for iOS.  Do you have iCloud Photo Library enabled with the "Optimize" option turned on?  If so, the videos are stored in iCloud instead of on your device to save space.

    iCloud Photo Library

iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps every photo and video you take in iCloud, so you can access your library from any device, anytime you want. And any changes you make to your collection on one device, change on your other devices too.

iCloud Photo Library keeps all of your photos and videos in their original, high-resolution version. You can save space on your device when you turn on Optimize Storage.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

    1. Go to Settings.
    2. Tap iCloud > Photos.
    3. Choose Optimize [device] Storage.

The resource below will explain how to download the video clips so that you can edit them.

iMovie for iOS (iPhone, iPod touch): Transfer media to your iOS device

The Video browser shows only video clips shot in iMovie or from your photo library. The tasks below describe different ways to transfer media to your device’s photo library so that the media appears in the Video browser.

    Use iCloud Photo Library

You can use iCloud Photo Library to transfer items between iOS devices. For example, if you take a picture on your iPhone, the photo automatically appears in your iCloud Photo Library and is available for you to use in your iMovie project on your iPad.

Important: iCloud Photo Library requires an iCloud account and iOS 8.3 or later. When iCloud Photo Library is turned on, you can’t transfer your photos or video clips using iTunes.

    1. On each device, go to Settings > iCloud to make sure you’re signed in with the same iCloud account.

    2. In iCloud Settings on each device, tap Photos, then tap to turn on iCloud Photo Library.

    3. Open iMovie for iOS, then open a project for editing.

Video clips or photos in your iCloud Photo Library but not on your device appear in the Video browser and media library with a cloud icon . Tapping the video clip or photo downloads it to the photo library on your device.

For more information, see Add video clips and photos from the photo library.

    Have a great day!

Thank you for trying to help, but the issue is still not fixed. This is maddening. I'm supposed to be posting a video a day and until this is fixed I can't access my projects in iMovie app on my iphone 6 to re-edit at all.
