Sorry, this is not possible.  But, you can protect the Time Capsule hard disk with a disk password, rather than use the same base station password.

Click here and follow the instructions. Don't add the encrypted image's password to the keychain.

Neil, we have received a number of posts from users who have tried this, but have found that the new version of Disk Utility in El Capitan will not display that Time Capsule disk.....usually named "Data", unless a user has changed the name.

The usual advice to mount "Data" on the desktop still does not display the Time Capsule disk in Disk Utility to allow the disk image to be created.

I have no trouble at all creating a disk image on the Time Capsule using earlier versions of Disk Utility.

    Thoughts?

Choose New Image from the File menu; this uses the standard file navigation dialog. If you can’t navigate to the Time Capsule from it for some reason, create the disk image on a local drive and drag-copy it to the Time Capsule in the Finder.

This what a number of users have reported with El Capitan. I'm seeing the same thing.

create the disk image on a local drive and drag-copy it to the Time Capsule in the Finder.

Thanks, will give that a try later today and report back.

No problem creating a new disk image on a local drive, or on the desktop

No problem dragging /copying, or copying / pasting the new disk image to the Time Capsule "Data' disk using the Finder

Disk Utility in El Capitan will still not display the Time Capsule Data disk in the Finder like navigation window provided by Disk Utility.

I have no problem at all setting this up when I test using Yosemite.

Will keep trying on El Capitan.

I created a disk image directly to the Gen4 TC.. I have taken my Gen5 out of the network for now as it seems to have started to suffer typical Gen5 issues.. unreliability.. etc. Will give it a test later.

I am trying to follow some of the instructions to load Yosemite Disk Utility app into El Capo since the reduced functionality is making life hard for me as atypical user.. I partition and format disks all the time.. and the El Capo version is just too cut down to be viable.
