Q: How to configure AppleTV on dual band WiFi network
Hi,
In my home, I have a Hitron CGN3 dual band modem/router installed, which offer both 2.4G and 5G wifi access. However, the dual band seems not fit for airplay as they cannot communicate to each other via dual frequencies.
Devices in house:
AppleTV (3rd gen): on 5G
iPhone 5S #1 (version 9.3.4): on 5G
iPhone 5S #2 (version 9.3.4): on 2.4G
AV Receiver: connecting using Ethernet cable
Laptop #1 (windows 7, latest iTune): 2.4G
Laptop #2 (windows 7, latest iTune): 2.4G
Communication Facts and Issues:
- iPhone 5S #1 (on 5G) can reach AppleTV (on 5G) - fine, but iPhone 5S #2 (on 2.4G) cannot see the AppleTV (on 5G)
- All iPhones and iTunes on laptops can see the AV receiver (on Ethernet cable)
- All iTunes on laptops (on 2.4G) cannot see the AppleTV (on 5G)
I believe Airplay should work in the same network. All my devices connect to the same modem/router, just using dual WiFi bands. Could you please advise that how to configure to enable devices on 2.4G to see AppleTV on 5G using airplay? Except the resolution that I have to put all devices on 2.4G. My laptops don't support 5G network, BTW.
Thank you very much.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
- Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
- Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
- Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
- Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
- Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
- Restart your mobile device or computer.
If you are still having problems, try using 802.11n for wifi if you are currently using either 802.11b or 802.11g.
If your problem is AirPlaying from a computer, try disabling bluetooth
