Q: Exclamation point next to the songs iTunes

Most of my iTs music has an ! beside the songs on my iMac. My iTunes on my MacBook pro is OK. On the iMac if I click a song the ! comes up and a box stating the original file cannot be found. If DONT click locate and click cancel then the file is restored. I can't do this over 5000 times. How do I get iTunes to find the files on the iMac?

    Hello Philton10,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that your music in the iTunes Library on your iMac has exclamation points next to it and you get an error saying that the original file cannot be found. I like listening to my music on all my devices too. In a situation like this, you may need to add the music files to iTunes again.

iTunes 12 for Mac: Import music and video already on your computer

Add items from your computer to your iTunes library

    Do either of the following:

    • Drag a file or folder from the Finder to the iTunes window.

If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.

    • In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.

    Best Regards

This kind of thing happens if you store media on an external drive but you don't mention that.
