How to import video from Canon XM2?

Hello, can somebody please help me with importing video data from camcorder Canon XM2 to my MacBook OS X El Capitan 10.11.4? I have got Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter & Firewire 800 1394b 9Pin to 4 Pin cable, so finally my Mac and camera are connected, but still does not work. iMovie does not recognise the camera. Really apprecite any help! 🙂

Thanks Petra

Hello liborfromlondon!

It's always great to get your movies imported for safe keeping and any editing you may want to do. We can see what we can do.

First, make sure the camcorder is powered on when it's connected to the MacBook. Then check the System Profiler to see if the computer recognizes it there: OS X: About System Information and System Profiler - Apple Support

You can also open the App Store app, click on Updates and make sure all updates are installed for the computer: Update the software on your Mac - Apple Support

If it's the same still after checking the profiler and updating, let us know and there's other steps we can try.

Best wishes.
