Q: Bootcamp Partition Readable in Finder, Won't Boot

Hi!

I know there are many similar articles regarding this issue but i'm hoping for some custom support!

I was previously running Windows only on my MBP (Mid 2014) and wanted to dual boot into OS X and windows. I cloned my windows partition using Macrium Reflect to a 500 gb external SSD.

I then formatted the drive in disk utility and installed OS X (yosemite). I partitioned the internal SSD using paragon (NTFS write ability) and cloned the external drive to the internal SSD drive.

Did you run startup repair after the clone was restored to the internal SSD? Were the two SSDs different size?

I have not run start-up repair - is that native to OS X?

The external SSD (clone) is 500 gb with about 250gb used

The internal SSD is also 500gb, and is currently partitioned to 132 gb OS X and 366.2 Windows

    Thoughts? Thanks again

Try Windows Startup Repair. You may need to build a USB Installer for your specific Windows version using BC Assistant. I assume you are not running W7.

Please see the steps in Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support to build a USB installer, specifically, step 11.

I created the USB installer but when I boot to the USB it locks up at the select language screen (first screen of windows installer).

The keyboard and mouse are unresponsive.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Step 11 is necessary to ensure that your Keyboard and Mouse work. Are you using a Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse? If yes, try a USB Keyboard/Mouse.

I downloaded the support drivers but they seem to only work if you launch directly from Bootcamp, but not when holding down option and booting via the usb stick.

    Any other ideas?

I tried creating a virtual machine from the windows partition via VM Fusion but upon trying to launch it told me "No boot filename received."

    Thanks

Do you have any third-party NTFS software? Such products interfere with booting. If you power cycle the Mac and hold Alt/Option key, do you see the internal disk's Windows installation as a selection?

    I have paragon installed.

No i currently do not see the window disk installation when holding down the option screen.

If i boot into recovery, and choose start up disk, i see both the windows folder and OSX drive

Would removing paragon be enough? anything else i'd have to do?

Paragon has it's own Startup Manager. Please see https://kb.paragon-software.com/article/204 .

Apple's System Preferences will not allow any NTFS partitions controlled by another driver as Startup Disk. If you see it when exiting Recovery, please select Windows and test.

With two NTFS drivers, the chances of possible NTFS corruption increase.

When i opened paragon it said paragon was missing critical resources so i uninstalled the drive.

Now OSX recognizes the windows system in the normal start-up disk, but when i boot into windows it only gets as far as a flashing dash in the upper left hand corner...

Any thoughts? Know of anyway other ways to boot into the windows start-up repair?
