Q: mac book pro OSX10.9.5 2.2GHz IntCore17

mac book pro OSX10.9.5 2.2GHz IntCore17

6 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

iphoto 9.6.1

Unable to use iPhoto and the prompted to upload latest version - which I did.

Now, the photos are there but only up until 2013.

Also, only some of the original folders are there.

All of the other folders and albums are missing showing all of the 10,000 photos categorized!

1. Where did they go to, during the update/download?

2. How to retrieve weeks of work and show the former arrangement?

I have a copy on my exterior HD. Please tell if I can proceed to remove this new upgrade and install the saved version from my HD? Or, should I install the new software and then drop my saved iPhoto into it?

Thanks - Ron

Exactly why can't you use iPhoto? what version do you have? depending on  exactly what you have and what you did - upgrading correctly doe not lose anything

We can not help without exact details including new and old software versions and exact error messages - if your operating iPhoto library on your main drive or your external drive?  also what format is the external Drive and how is it connected?
