ibooks quits unexpectedly in El Capitan

I recently upgraded my desktop (a late 2009 1.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) from Yosemite to El Capitan (10.11.6). Up until the upgrade iBooks worked fine, sometimes rather slow to load, but it got the job done.

The first time I opened iBooks in El Capitan it gave me the usual "Welcome to iBooks" screen you get whenever you have a new/updated app. I signed into iCloud and clicked "Get Started" and it goes to a screen that says "Creating iBooks Library, moving 2,702 books..." and then quits within 2 seconds with the "iBooks has quit unexpectedly..." dialogue box. I have tried reopening the app, closing down all my other running apps before opening, and restarting the computer 3 times, but iBooks still quits at the exact same point.

Has anyone else had this problem and how can I fix it? I organize all my PDFs in iBooks to find them easily and this is very irritating.

HI Carolyn,

Thamls for the reply! I tried deleting the com.apple.iBooks.plist file & restarting and iBooks still quit as it was loading. I also tried deleting the com.apple.ibooksx.plist file (I saw this solution in another thread)- iBooks slowed down as it was loading and I almost thought it was going to work, but once again quit as it was trying to move the books.

Is there another preference I can delete, or possibly stop iBooks from trying to create the library and add everythjng back manually? Although with 2,702 documents, I'd rather not do it manually unless all else fails.
