Q: Why did apple discontinue their servers "hardware"?

Why did apple discontinue their servers "hardware" not the software, I understand it is still available in the app store.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

It just wasn't a market that was working for them. Apart form the Xserves (which they stopped selling in 2011) all the other servers were just regular macs running osX Server.

 

As you said, you can upgrade osX to the server variant for just £15.
