Aug 17, 2016 2:28 AMby John Lockwood,There are no AMD drivers for AMD video cards for OS X, there are no hacked drivers for AMD video cards for OS X. The only drivers for AMD video cards for OS X are those built-in to OS X and written and provided by Apple.
It is my understanding that an R9 270 card is supported by El Capitan and hence presumably also Sierra. However unless you or someone has installed custom firmware on to the card it will not show anything until after the Mac has finished booting.
With regards to using it in Windows via Boot Camp, yes this will work. Again unless you have custom Mac firmware you will not see anything until Windows has finished booting and therefore loading the Windows driver for this card.
It is a sad and ironic situation that many video cards work better in Windows via Boot Camp than in OS X even on the same Mac Pro. For example I have an AMD Radeon HD 7950 card, this card supports audio via the HDMI cable in Windows, it also supports 30bit color in Windows but does not support either of these features in OS X even on the same Mac Pro. This is purely down to Apple's pitiful drivers.
It is even hypothetically possible to use a video card in Windows via Boot Camp even if there are no OS X drivers for it! You would need to install the drivers in to Windows first which means initially using a different video card supported by OS X so you can install Windows via Boot Camp.

On youtube i saw a guy putting a gtx 980 in it without drivers and he said that as long as you keep the standard graphics card there will be a boot screen ( and a screen where you can choose to boot of a drive ) but the thing i still not understand is in windows it's inpossible to use 2 different graphics cards ( at least that's what i read online ) so how would that work i windows? Could i just use the r9 270 in windows and on mac both? ( on mac i would use the standard graphics card to power and connect to the display and then the r9 270 for all the power, i wish i could use this method in windows? )

- Then install in this case the latest Nvidia Drivers for Windows in to the Windows environment
- Shutdown the Windows/Mac
- Swap the video card i.e. insert the R9 270 and remove the original card
- As the Mac will still be set to boot in to Windows i.e. Boot Camp when you boot it this time it will again boot in to Windows and this time load the drivers for the R9 270 card, when it has finished booting and loading the drivers the Windows login screen will appear
If you need to switch to booting in to OS X you use the Boot Camp control panel in Windows. The Mac will then boot in to OS X and again once it has finished booting the Mac login screen will appear.
