Q: iMac 27 inch late 2012 doesn't start anymore

This morning while I was working on my iMac 27 inch late 2012, suddenly he stops and doesn't start up anymore.

After pushing the on/off button there's no sound and no screen. NOTHING. BLACK SCREEN Who knows what is maybe wrong...

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Hi Heinz, bummer. This Apple Support may help.

If your Mac won't turn on - Apple Support

Since you have no power, much of it will not apply. Read the subtopic, "Power issues."

I have this problem after not using my iMac for a few weeks. It started a couple of days ago but I manged to get it going. However, today it has happened again. I am deaf so cannot haer the chimes but if I hold the bottom right edges I can feel some vibrations that go in cycles of three and if I plug a USB hub in the power light on that comes on so I am assuming the Mac does have power to it but just a black screen. Have already seen the article macjack mentions but it did not help

The Mac is also 2011/12 model and I was thinking of replacing it but now wary about shelling out £1000 for new one.

I have a 2010 iMac myself. In the US if you bring your Mac into an Apple Store they will do a free diagnostic on your Mac. Don't know if they do that where you are.

It may be 3 beeps you are feeling. That is the beep tone emitted for bad RAM or badly seated RAM. If that's it, that would be a really easy fix. The RAM in the your iMac is very user accessible.

Thanks macjack. I am in the UK. Do you know where I can obtain the instructions to repair this myself as I am quite some way form a Apple Store.

Hi Davie, I thought I was replying to Heinz when I answered your post. After this, please post your own Topic. You'll get a lot more attention that way and won't cause cross-currents here. You see, I am confused already! LOL

Install memory in an iMac - Apple Support

EDIT: But this is only an assumption about the RAM and the vibrations you felt.

Hi macjack, OK will do that nrxt time but I just thought I would let you know that I removed the RAM cards to identify what I needed to by. Found a little bit of dust so removed that and re-seated the cards. Plugged it back in and..Whooo it took off like a rocket.

Thanks for your help and greetings from the UK
