Q: Homesharing with old family apple ID still works even with new apple ID?

I just made a new apple ID after being linked to my family one for years. I was able to keep all my music and shows because of Homesharing with my old family apple ID. I didn't know everything would be the same even with a new apple ID for iTunes and iCloud. Is there any reason to disconnect it? Anything new I buy will be through my account, and the I am the only device for my apple ID.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3.4

You can play content from any account on a computer providing it is authorised to do so, you can only play content from the account you are signed into on iOS devices.

I can play the music and tv shows on my phone, and I can see in settings that they both work because the homesharing in each is set to my old family apple id. Even logged into my new apple ID for iTunes, I can still play the old music on both my phone and computer.

Slightly pedantic, but If I recall correctly devices can hold protected content from up to five different Apple IDs. Once transferred to the device I don't think there are any further checks and the content remains accessible as long as it is stored on the device. Transfer to or from the device can only take place if the computer is authorized for the relevant account. App updates also require the original user's password.

Then we may be seeing different things. Songs I have imported via home sharing from my sons computer to mine for which I have authorisation to play are available and playable on my computer but not on my iOS devices.

I see that track is ineligible for your iCloud Music Library, which makes sense, but I suspect if you synced the iPhone locally with iTunes you would be able to copy the track over.

Things may have changed (or my old memory may be letting me down again) but I don't believe it would transfer either when used iTunes sync by wifi either, a few years back.
