Q: This cable or accessory is not certified popup while not plugged in. iOS 9.3.4

I updated to iOS 9.3.4 on my iPhone 6 Plus this morning. Now, this afternoon, I am getting a popup every few minutes saying "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone." I am not plugged in to any cable or accessory. Apple support advised to do a hard reset, which I did. After a few minutes I received the popup again. Not plugged into anything.

Never received this message before today. The only thing I am aware of that has changed is the software update to 9.3.4 (13G35).

Any similar experiences please mark as I have this question too. I did see one other post on here, from a user with an iPhone 5 with this same exact issue.

Charles Cavanaugh

    Hi ccphd,

I understand that you're getting an error that your accessory is not certified, despite not having anything connected to your iPhone. I know that it's important to have your device working reliably, so I'm happy to provide some direction to help with this.

Check out the troubleshooting steps we have for that message here:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't charge - Apple Support

If an alert says that your accessory isn't supported or certified

These alerts can appear for a few reasons: Your iOS device might have a dirty or damaged charging port, your charging accessory is defective, damaged, or non Apple-certified, or your USB charger isn't designed to charge devices.

    1. Remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your device.
    2. Restart your iOS device.
    3. Try a different USB cable or charger.
    4. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.
    5. Contact Apple Support to set up service.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities, cheers!

Hi, I believe it was in fact debris in the charging port. Thanks!
