Aug 13, 2016 7:27 PM in response to Dale Marcellby Rysz,With CPU at 120, there are background processes working hard for you. They could be anything from syncing your data, downloading iTunes data such as Genius playlists, to your Photos app uploading all your images to iCloud. This is especially true on new hardware.
FWIW, the modern, thin iMacs, generally run warm, but if you're not seeing Overheating warnings flashing on the screen, the Mac is OK.

Aug 13, 2016 8:17 PM in response to think.differentby Dale Marcell,The over heating happens when I'm away from the unit at night. It's in sleep mode. Now with the new iMac it hasn't shut down or rebooted like my old mac mini 2011. It would do the same thing then shut down and reboot.
I thought that the new iMac would perform better, but its up to the same tricks. I'm not sure why it's performing hight performance, hi CPU% usesage late at night, All apps are shut down,. Kernel tasks can be a problem.
Someone at Apple must have an answer, From now on I'm shutting the system down until I get some kind of answer.
Thanks for your comments.

Aug 14, 2016 7:47 PM in response to Dale Marcellby Eric Root,Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.
Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.
