iPhone Not Syncing Contacts with Outlook 2010 on Windows PC

For years, I have synced my contacts (and calendars) with Outlook 2010 Professional on my PC with Windows 7 Home Premium via USB. (I do not want to use iCloud - I want it to sync with the PC.)

Suddenly, all of my contacts on my iPhone 5 are gone. I believe they were deleted when I synced my phone today. They are still in Outlook on my PC. My phone favorites are still on my phone, but they are only numbers with no names.

I tried resyncing. I tried resetting the sync history. I tried a hard restart on my phone. I did these several times in different order. No dice.

My calendars still sync, but no contacts. This is not good.

The only change that has been made recently was an iOS update on my iPhone last night to version 9.3.4.

Since I believe all of my contacts were on my phone yesterday and now they are gone today after the iOS and/or sync, I strongly suspect the non-syncing of contacts is somehow related to the iOS update.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance.

I spent 2 1/2 hrs on phone with Apple technician and we could not get sync to work. I gave up 6 months ago after concluding it can not be fixed.

Hi tednovak,

I'm sorry to hear that you are missing your contacts after updating your iPhone to iOS 9.3.4. Since you do not use iCloud, and instead sync your PC with iTunes, did you make a backup of your iPhone prior to updating it? If so, you can restore your iPhone using iTunes:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If you do not have a recent backup of your iPhone data, you can try to resync your data from Outlook to your iPhone. The resource below provides troubleshooting steps for this process.

I am using a iPhone 6s plus and am suddenly having the same issue.

The backup on iTunes is from after this issue happened so will not have my contacts in it.
I tried to get iTunes to resync my contacts with outlook and while the status bar says is syncing the contacts, none of them return to the iPhone.
I tried a complete uninstall and reinstall of ITunes which also did not work.
I tried going to the phones "Info" tab in iTunes going down to the "Advanced" box and under "replace the information on this iPhone" selecting "Contacts". Still no success.
Also tried a few other solutions suggested on the web but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

I found this discussioniPhone Sync - How to tell iTunes which Outlook Data File to use? (Personal or Exchange) which had the solution. Turns out it's pretty simple. You have to go into your Outlook properties and point to the correct data file for contacts.
