Q: Lost Photos

My phone is almost out of storage and so the rep at Verizon told me to download my photos to iTunes.  I connected my phone and pulled up photos on my mac and I could only download my most recent 7.  I downloaded those and then looked a my phone and the remaining 1000 are missing and the only ones left are the ones I downloaded.  Help.

    Hey there tjphillips34,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Photos are certainly a prized possession with our iPhones and other mobile devices. Let's see if we can find those items together. So after using Photos on your Mac, 7 items came over and the rest seemed to have gone into hiding. There are a few places photos can be stored. They may be in an iTunes backup, they could certainly be in an iCloud backup (If iCloud photo library was disabled), in iCloud.com and your photos. Additionally, they may be hiding on the device itself under a different folder.

The first order of business, would be to locate one of your backups. Below is an article for finding your backups, be it with iCloud or iTunes. If you notice a recent backup from before the items went missing, you may certainly restore your device from that backup and the items may return. Note that photos originally synced to your iPhone from your computer using iTunes, may permanently remove these images if iCloud photo library is turned on.
