Q: I have to subscribe to Apple music to get my music back? No

Every time I try to play music that I bought the CD's of a long time ago, burnt to iTunes, and have had on my phone for at least three generations of iPhones now; Applemusic stops me and says I have to subscribe to play the music. WHAT? So I either subscribe to Applemusic for $10 a month, or buy the albums again on iTunes Store? I don't really have the money for either right now. Not to mention, some of the songs on ITunes cut out halfway through and skip to the next song. What the **** is going on? Is it time to switch to android? Yeah I think so

    Hi Chawlz3,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities! I understand you're having trouble with playing music that you've previously purchased on your iPhone. I love listening to my music so I can understand wanting to make sure you can get to your music at your convenience. I'm happy to offer some direction for you.

It sounds like you may need to re-download your past purchases to your iPhone (and possibly your computer). No worries, this is easily done with the steps found in the article below. Once you download your past purchases on your iPhone, you can just tap on the skip option when you go to the Music app to skip past the opt-in screen for Apple Music. An Apple Music Membership isn't required in order to listen to music that you've already purchased.

    Download your past purchases

    Cheers!

t seems like you didn't actually read my full post. They were CDs burned onto iTunes put into my iPhone from a PC.  God only knows where those CDs and PC are now. I went to iTunes to see if all I had to do was re download the music, but no, I have to re purchase all of the music. That could be hundreds of dollars of music. Why Apple, why??

Thanks for the clarification on what's happening. In order to listen to the music that you've copied from CDs that you've purchased, you'd need to make sure they're in your iTunes library on the computer first. You can use the steps in the article below to add a file or folder to your iTunes library.

iTunes 12 for Windows: Import music and video already on your computer

If you no longer have access to the original computer you would need to copy those CDs to iTunes on your current computer. Once the music is copied to the computer, you just need to plug your iPhone in and sync your music using iTunes. You still don't need to have an Apple Music Membership in order to listen to music that you sync from your computer. However, if you no longer have access to your CDs or the files that contain the copied music to import them back in to iTunes, then you would need to purchase the music in order to be able to listen to it.

iTunes 12 for Windows: Import songs from CDs

Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB

    Take care.
