IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext

HI, I'm trying to disable kernel_task because it's using up my CPU, but I can't find the IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext folder that will help me move it and solve the problem. Can someone tell me how/why it's missing and how I get it back? Thanks.

My model identifier is a MacBook Pro 9,2

Okay, I'll download that. I'm running version 10.11.14.

Well I googled how to remove kernel_task from using up so much CPU and slowing down my Mac, and the solution I found said that after rebooting in Recovery mode and disabling SIP you needed to go into the contents of IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext, then into PlugIns, then into the contents of ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext and into Resources and then backup and move the .plist. After a reboot and enabling of SIP this should be solved. Quite a few other solutions I found also suggested this. What do you think?

I have updated and kernel_task is still a problem. EasyFind also didn't locate the .kext. What exactly is your solution for stopping kernel_task? Have you had the problem before?

Welcome back. First of all the kernel_task isn't even very high. Second, you have malware installed. Third, you have CleanMyMac installed which needs to be uninstalled. You can try to remove the malware with EntreCheck by clicking on the "Remove" links and if that doesn't work you can install malwarebytes and remove.

https://www.malwarebytes.com/antimalware/mac/

You only have 4GBs of RAM which really is the minimum for El Capitan so you need to limit how many programs you run and how many tabs you have open at one time.

Remove the malware, remove CleanMyMac, then restart and post back.
