Unfortunately "enough" is an open ended question when heavy graphics apps are involved. There is no sharp line above which performance is acceptable for everyone and below which performance is unacceptable for everyone. Basically, the stronger the box and GPU, and the more RAM on board up to 8 GB (today) the better Aperture's or Photoshop's performance will be.

There are folks with harsh workflows on this thread who have loudly complained about Aperture on iMacs. Many others with
lesser boxes consider performance fine. IMO in general an iMac or MBP with 2 (preferably 3) GB RAM is adequate today, but heavier users like me will feel RAM starved as time goes on and the OS/apps evolve to suit newer stronger hardware.

Personally I consider iMacs poor choices for desktop heavy graphics apps usage. They have the limitations (RAM in particular) of laptops but without the portability.

For my use it works very well. I'm a low-end prosumer I guess. I shoot JPEG, not RAW. Nobody pays me for anything I shoot. I use Aperture in my spare time. It is plenty fast for my needs.

BUT if I were earning money with this I would say it was too slow. And especially if I were earning money with it and shooting RAW I would say it was too slow.

This iMac will be around for about two years and then become a hand-me-down, so I am not too worried about the limited RAM.
