How can I delete an iCal event without notifying the sender?

I recently received a spam iCal event (the description was entirely in Chinese and the guest list had no one that I knew on it). When I initially checked it the only available options were attend, maybe or decline. I then went to my calendar and tried to delete the event. However, after clicking delete my only options were either decline or cancel. Why does iCal not give me the option to delete without replying? I've looked online and there are threads going back to 2003 with similar questions. Are there work arounds to this issue? I have the newest version of El Capitan.

In Ical, I created a new calendar and named it spam. I then drag and dropped the recurring chinese spam in the new iCloud calendar. I then selected the new iCloud calendar I had NAMED spam and pressed the delete key. It asked if I wanted to delete the calendar and all invites would be notified. There was a button next to that that said delete without notifying. YAY! Done in 10 minutes. And yes, i am noob apple.

Changing the iCloud preference to convert iCal invites to email has worked well for me. I also came across this workaround for deleting existing spam invites that made it into my iCal before I changed my preference setting. I haven't tried it yet but it makes sense.

Basically, you disable networking, delete the event, then delete the notification from email:

  1. Turn off networking on your Mac
  2. Delete the event from iCal
  3. Wait for the notification to show up in your Outbox
  4. Delete email from Outbox
  5. Turn back on networking

Once networking is back on, the sync will remove the other events from iCloud and your Phone.

It won't let me move the event. Says "Only the organizer of this event can make changes to it." I was trying to do this on iCloud app for windows as I do not have a Mac and the software is so unwieldy on the iPad, it is impossible. Any suggestions? I may just delete that calendar and hope I did not have any events that I needed. No agenda or list view makes that impossible to tell.

Awesome! 864 people have found your post helpful, including myself! Since this issue may become more pervasive and, to my knowledge, Apple has no plans to address this issue, I have taken your idea one step further.

I created a new calendar and moved the invite into this Spam Calendar, as you suggested. I then went back into my iCal settings and deselected Spam Calendar from the list to hide this calendar.

Now, whenever I receive spam iCal invites, I can instantly move them into my Spam Calendar and they will not show up on my Apple Callendar!
