Q: I just bought a new Iphone 6 and when I connect to my Mac it says that I need to download the latest version of Itunes on my phone. The Mac does not recognize my new phone. Any suggestions

The reason is that the latest version of iTunes is 12.4.3 and it is needed for some of the iPhone 6 features. And the reason that your Mac is telling you that you have the latest is that it is the latest for the version of OS X you have. You need to update to a newer OS X to be able to sync your phone.

 

And don't assume that because it is new, the iPhone has the latest version. If it has been sitting on a shelf for a while it may not. The latest iOS is 9.3.4. Check for it on Settings.

    Are you sure it says download iTunes on your iPhone. Perhaps you meant it requires you to update to a newer version of iTunes on your Mac? Apple devices often require a certain build of iTunes or newer to be read. Check this article here to see how to update iTunes. An iPhone 6 would require iTunes 12.3 or later.

    My Mac has the latest version 11.3. My phone is new so you would think it has the latest version. This is the actual message: your iPhone cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes
