I am finding it difficult to password protect Mail in iMac OS X El Capitan. Can anyone advise on the walkthrough process to do this. Many Thanks.

You can passprotect/encrypt your entire computer as well:

Do you want to encrypt the email messages you send, or just password protect the Mail application on your Mac?
The latter essentially cannot be accomplished without a lot of mental and virtual gymnastics.
You password protect your user account and don't let anyone else use the account in order to "password protect" things in the account such as Mail.
