Q: Can not steam photos

I have configured iTunes for home sharing and selected a photo file for streaming. Have configured Apple TV for home sharing. When I click on the computer icon in Apple TV I am told "to access iTunes library, turn on home sharing on your computer and use Apple ID (email address). Is there another method to get a file to stream on Apple TV?

I had done this previously. So I turned off Home Sharing and then re-entered password. Page noted that Home Sharing was turned on. When I went back to click on the computer icon I got the same notice to turn on Home Sharing. I might note that the program had worked smoothly. I had not changed any of the settings but over the weekend it would not work.

You could try rebooting the router. Apple TV and computer. Do you have any firewall product on the PC that might block communications?

Rebooting did not help. One last question: the only change I have made to system is to set up a second email address to open emails thru iCloud on the ipad. Settings/Home Sharing on ipad shows apple id used by Apple TV. Could this change cause my problem?

The idea is that you use one Apple ID for all things related to Apple. Once you bring multiple IDs into the mix things become complicated.

Home Sharing relies on multiple devices both signed into the same Apple ID, along with a service that advertises the home shared content on the network. Each device needs to be on the same local subnet, and the router must not be set up for wireless isolation if any of the devices connect over wi-fi. Firewalls need to allow the traffic. Using DHCP configured by the router generally seems to work better than using manually assigned IP addresses. If fixed addresses are required it is usually possible to pre-allocate the IP addresses in the DHCP server. See Get help with Home Sharing - Apple Support.

Thanks for your input - but you are way above my pay grade now. I will keep working on it.

If you are saying that you have added a secondary Apple ID through settings > mail, contacts, calendars on the iPad or system preferences > Internet accounts on the Mac for the purpose of having another email account, this shouldn't affect homesharing in anyway.

It doesn't actually matter whether you use the Apple ID you use for iTunes (or iCloud for that matter) for home sharing or not, the only requirement is it's a real Apple ID and you use the same one for home sharing on the Apple TV as you do on the computer.
