I purchased songs via itunes store today on my PC. They all show as purchased but are not automatically synching to my ipod touch 4.2.1 (8 gb). Being a rookie, I can't tell on my PC if they're all downloaded. I can't find my answer after searching the "Communities" forum. Help, please?

Downloaded where? Downloaded from iTunes to your computer?
If they are in your iTunes library without a cloud icon by them they have been download.

them to your 2G iPod since that model/iOS version does not support Automatic Downloading
My ipod is set to automatically sync. I clicked on my Account / Check for Available Downloads". I get an itunes box saying "All purchases have been downloaded for this Apple I.D". My ipod is plugged into my PC processor. Yet none of today's purchases show as downloaded onto it. Man, I'm confused by all this!

Yes, they play in itunes.
When I plug my ipod into the computer it says "synching ipod", then shows me when it's complete & can be disconnected.
If the status bar is at the top of the page, it shows me what song is playing & it's progress.
I'm a total rookie at this & am not even sure what I'm supposed to be looking at on the itunes store page to see what's happened.
I thought once I clicked the "buy" feature for each song it would automatically load onto my ipod once it's plugged in.

When was the last time you synced music from this computer to your iPod?
You can only sync with one computer.
When in itunes I click on MY DEVICE, then MUSIC, it shows a list of everything I've previously downloaded EXCEPT what I purchased today.
It's been a few months. I have a PC & that's all I ever sync from.
If you sync setting are correct then backup to iTunes and restore from backup
