WirelessOn one of your Macs......
Hold down the option key while you click on the Time Machine "clock" icon at the top of the screen
Click on Verify Backups
The process will take anywhere from 10-60 minutes or more depending on how much data is stored in the back up. You can do other things while the verification process is running, or just watch the progress scale if you are bored and don't have anything else to do.
Note the results after the process is complete.
Then, run the same check on the other Mac.
Report on your results for both Macs.

Aug 15, 2016 2:35 AM in response to Bob Timmonsby fredfrommccormick,Thanks very much for your help Don. Further info- I let the current backup continue to run all night before doing what you suggested and it advanced from 31.51 GB of 65.01 to 31.75 GB of 65.01. Should I just stop it?
The other seemingly important fact is that I do also backup both computers to 2 other external drives and there is no problem or no slowdown whatever with those- it's only with the Time Capsule.
Also, I would guess that if I'm going to Verify the Backups I should disconnect the other drives first or is there a way to designate which drive I want to verify the backups on?
Thanks again, Fred

Not a big deal, but not sure who Don might be.....my name is Bob.

Yes

You will only be able to Verify Disk on the Time Capsule. Each Mac will Verify its own backup. No need to disconnect other drives. Please follow the instructions that I provided above, and report on your results for the backup of each Mac.

Aug 15, 2016 7:25 AM in response to fredfrommccormickby MurgenTemplar,Issue: Back To My Mac disables Time Machine (and grays out all base-stations with BTMM in the Airport Config Tool). I managed to get hold on a Dutch Senior engineer from Apple and the issue is now underway to Ireland.
Workaround: Open Airport-Config Tool, Goto Configure another base-station, remove any ID in Back to my Mac and restart TM device. Alternative is to remove the WAN-cable, restart TM and see it come back in the utility. Remove any ID and restart. Don't forget to plug in the WAN-cable when you are done.
Then try to start a Time Machine backup.
Good luck!

Aug 15, 2016 7:46 AM in response to Bob Timmonsby fredfrommccormick,OK, I ran the Verify Backups on the first one (15) and it ran in 10 minutes, showed nothing at all except this info on the Time Machine Preferences screen -

and this when I click on the clock -
That latest backup is the one on the other external drive.
Then I tried to run Verify Backup on the other (13) and Time Capsule has a red info button on it
and here's what is says:
Verify backups is greyed out.
