Aug 14, 2016 4:39 PM in response to ale-enginiusby Tesserax,To start, I would like to verify that your "Adsl modem" is, in fact, a simple modem and not a combination modem & router. Would you please provide the make & model of this device?
Also, what exact model of the AirPort Extreme do you have? From what you posted, would it be the 802.11ac (tower)?
-
Aug 14, 2016 5:22 PM in response to ale-enginiusby LaPastenague,I think you have the switch in the wrong place.. it is possible the modem (usually 10/100 ports for adsl) has managed to get itself into local network so all packets are going via the modem.
Go.. adsl modem---Airport Extreme---Switch.

Aug 15, 2016 1:21 PM in response to Tesseraxby ale-enginius,It is a modem router, a DLINK DSL-2740B. Since it hasn't gigait ethernet it is connecte only to the switch.
The Airport's model is 802.11 ac

Aug 15, 2016 1:28 PM in response to LaPastenagueby ale-enginius,The modem is connected only to the switch that is the one connected to the other devices.
Why all the packets should go via the modem?
If I disconnect from the Airport Extreme the ethernet wire, and I connect it to the Mac (through an adapter), I get acceptable speed.

Aug 15, 2016 2:09 PM in response to ale-enginiusby Tesserax,The DLink DSL-2704B is a combination ADSL modem and wireless router ... or gateway device.
Is the following look like this from the back?
Is the Gigabit Ethernet switch connected to one of the gateway's Ethernet ports? If so, the connection between the gateway and the switch will still only be 100 Mbps and be the bottleneck in your current network configuration.

Aug 15, 2016 11:33 PM in response to Tesseraxby ale-enginius,Yes, the switch is connected to a dlink's ethernet port.
The configuration is the following
I think that:
- ETH 0 is 100Mb
- ETH 1, ETH 2, AND ETH 3 should be 1 Gb
Now, If I connect the Macbook to ETH 1 it can read from Synology at 1Gb (it don't pass through the DLINK)
If I connect it to the ETH 3 (to the airport extreme) it can read only at 100Mb.
Which do you think should be the correct configuration?

Aug 16, 2016 8:30 AM in response to ale-enginiusby Tesserax,I think that:
- ETH 0 is 100Mb
- ETH 1, ETH 2, AND ETH 3 should be 1 Gb
That would be correct.
Now, If I connect the Macbook to ETH 1 it can read from Synology at 1Gb (it don't pass through the DLINK)
Yes, that would be correct as well.
If I connect it to the ETH 3 (to the airport extreme) it can read only at 100Mb.
That is because the Extreme's Ethernet port is sensing that the overall connection between the base station and the gateway through the Ethernet switch is only 100 Mbps.
Again, your gateway device will be the bottleneck in this network. I strongly suggest that you replace it with one that support Gigabit Ethernet connections on both the WAN and LAN sides.

Sep 23, 2016 3:20 PM in response to Tesseraxby star-affinity,I have a somewhat similar issue, and I don't have any 100 Mbps devices in the network. Well the AirPort Express, but it's not causing my problem it seems – the Time Capsule (4th Generation) is.
What happens is that as soon as my AirPort Time Capsule is part of the network, file transfers speed over Ethernet (from Mac Pro to MacBook Pro both Ethernet connected) goes at around 10 MB/s. If I exclude the AirPort Time Capsule and connect the Mac Pro directly to the ”Router and Switch” the file transfer speed goes at around 70 MB/s.
The ”Router and Switch” is the DHCP server and the AirPort Time Capsule is set to ”Router Mode: Off (Bride Mode)”.
Any ideas what's causing this slowdown? Can I adjust some setting on the AirPort Time Capsule (I've checked everything I can think of).
Anyway, here is how the networks looks for me when slow:
And when fast:
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Sep 23, 2016 4:38 PM in response to star-affinityby LaPastenague,Hi
Are you using the WAN port of the TC?
In bridge DON'T.
Plug the router into LAN port and plug the Mac Pro into a LAN port.
In bridge the WAN port should be assigned to LAN but we are finding it problematic.
Another option if the distance is not to great is to plug the TC into the gigabit switch.. it just works better that way.. at least as experiment to locate the issue.
The next thing is the actual age of the TC because they do suffer hardware problems as they get older.

Test using only the LAN ports of the Extreme.. in bridge mode the airport routers assign the WAN port to LAN but we are seeing issues with the WAN port in this configuration.
If you are already using LAN ports only then we need to get more info from inside the airport than apple allow. I might be able to help you do that. But you will need to email me.
It is available on my webpage.

Sep 24, 2016 12:08 PM in response to LaPastenagueby star-affinity,Thanks, but I forgot to mentioned that I tried that. First I had it connected via the WAN port and then I tried to go via one of the LAN ports instead, but it didn't make a difference – transfer speed was about the same (10 MB/s) no matte which port I used. Strange, huh?

Sep 24, 2016 2:19 PM in response to star-affinityby LaPastenague,Yes, because once you swap to LAN port you have no routing in effect.. and the AE itself should have no effect.
On the computer have you set IPv6 to link local only? Have you turned off wifi?
No luck then without diagnostics it is near impossible to figure out the issue.
I would test with another ethernet cord.. I know you substituted a Mac which worked fine. but ethernet cords of middling quality can sometimes work and sometimes fail.. it is always worth have a decent grade Cat6 patch cable on hand.. or several.. to ensure it is not some silly cable fault. (Gigabit requires all 4 pairs to be pretty much perfect).
-
Sep 25, 2016 1:27 AM in response to LaPastenagueby star-affinity,Yes, IPv6 set to local only. Have tried having Wi-Fi both on and off.
Test with another cord is of course a good idea! What I have now are newly purchased Cat 7 cables that are also shielded. Maybe the TC cannot handle this for some reason (obvious works these cables for my other devices, since things are fast when the TC is omitted). I mean, it is the oldest routing device of the ones I have in my network (excluding the AirPort Express)..

Can't seem to edit my post anymore.
