Q: Iphone Calling on Mac

I have a Mac Mini running El Capitan.   My current setup is that I have the Mac physically plugged into my Offices network as well as connected to the same Wifi network as my Iphone.

I am able to make calls from my Mac without issues.   But if someone calls me, the mac will ring but when I try to answer I get a "Call Failed" message.

If I unplug my ethernet cable and am using straight wireless I do not have any issues.

My question is will this work if the computer is connect to both wifi and a physical network?   If so how?

thanks

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

    Hello qball2335q,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you have a question about receiving calls on your Mac when connected to Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Your Mac mini is connected to both connections, and when you try to receive a call on your Mac, you get a call failed message. However, if you unplug the Ethernet cable, and only use Wi-Fi, the call completes.

I know it's nice to be able to properly manage how you receive calls on your Mac. I'm happy to assist you in finding the best resolution.

Please use OS X El Capitan: Use your Mac to make and receive phone calls and view the requirements to make and receive phone calls on your Mac, specifically, this section:

    Requirements

To make and receive phone calls on your Mac, make sure of the following:

    • Your iPhone has iOS 8 or later installed.

    • Your Mac and iPhone are on the same Wi-Fi network. For more information, see Connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi

    • Your Mac and iPhone have Wi-Fi calls turned on.

If you are connected to Ethernet and Wi-Fi, your Mac takes priority with the hard-wired Ethernet connection, and that is what caused the call to fail. It never reaches the Wi-Fi connection. To be able to use this feature, you would need to be connected to Wi-Fi only on your Mac.

    Have an amazing day!
