Q: I have the latest version of mac Os X. On a ntfs format external drive some of the folders on external drive turned into 0 kb Unix Exe Files when using Parallels windows emulator. Help?

I have the latest version of mac Os X. On a ntfs format external drive some of the folders on external drive turned into 0 kb Unix Exe Files when using Parallels windows emulator. Help?

    Parallels is not a Windows emulator. It creates an environment in which you can install Windows on a Mac and run it as a Virtual Machine. Have you installed any version of Windows in Parallels yet?

    Thanks and yes you're quite right. I have been running Win 10 since it came out and this is the first time I've had this problem. I have Tuxera NTFS on my mac as well so have had not problems reading NTFS format drives.

    If you are running Windows in Parallels you do not need any third party tools to read/write to NTFS drives from within Windows. When you see the behavior you described are you trying to access the files from Windows or OSX?

    Yes you are correct too. I use Tuxera when reading NTFS drives on the mac. The problem started I think when I had the drive plugged in and was using Parallels and accessed the folders from Windows but as I said I'd done that plenty of times before and never had a problem.

    NFTS read is supported by os x, NTFS write ability is not. If you have updated your OS X recently you should contact the developer and make sure they are supporting your version of their software in the new OS X environment
