Q: iphone4s front camera stuck with a hazy image

I am experiencing a strange problem with my iphone 4s. Whenever I try to access the front camera it is stuck with a hazy image that the rear camera has seen.

To explain in more detail, suppose I open the camera app and my rear camera sees the image of a "cup" and then when I switch to the front camera I am still stuck with the same image of the "cup" and nothing happens.

When the camera app is opened(view of rear camera):

When the camera is switched to front camera:

I upgraded to the latest ios but I am still facing the same issue. Could someone tell me if this is a software issue or my front camera has broken? Much appreciated.

    Hello there vikkymanit!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having an issue with the camera application actually turning the camera around for the front and rear views. I know how important it is to be sure the camera works in both views. You might want to try restarting the phone by powering the phone off and then powering it back on. Also, try forcing the camera app closed by double tapping the home button on the bottom of the front of the iPhone and then when you see the apps running in the background, slide up on them to close them all and then reopen the camera app and see if the issue is still going on.

If that doesn't work, it would be a good idea to check and see if there might be a software issue as the root cause of this for you. Check out these articles for steps:

    1. Check out this article for the steps for How to backup your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    2. Use this article for the steps to Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings.
    3. Once that is done, set the phone up as new and test the phone to see if the issue is still going on. Then, follow this article to Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

    Cheers!

    Hi,

Thank you for the response and suggestions. I tried everything you mentioned above. However, the problem is still persisting.
