I worry that gatekeeper is not updated though there is a new version.

How can i check version of gatekeeper and xprotect manually?

Open the Terminal application (Launchpad : Other : Terminal).

Copy and paste the blue text into your Terminal, and then press return. This will output the last Gatekeeper update, or in the case of the second command, the last XProtect update.

# Output last version and installed date for Gatekeeper

$ system_profiler SPInstallHistoryDataType | awk '/Gatekeeper/,/Install/ {$1=$1;print}' | tail -6

Result:

Gatekeeper Configuration Data:

Version: 95

Source: Apple

Install Date: 8/16/16, 4:39 PM

# Output last installed date for XProtectPlistConfigData. Version is always 1.0.

$ system_profiler SPInstallHistoryDataType | awk '/XProtect/,/Install/ {$1=$1;print}' | tail -5

Result:

XProtectPlistConfigData:

Version: 1.0

Source: Apple

Install Date: 7/10/16, 7:22 PM

You can also find this information via the Apple logo : About This Mac : System Report… : Software : Installations panel.

I only get the program version, 1.0 i guess...

Version: 1,0

Source: Apple

Install Date: 2015-04-30 21:53

Not the definitions file

/System/Library/CoreServices/XProtect.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.plist

Does not contain any version or dates, i can see the change date though

drwxr-xr-x 6 root wheel 204 20 Jul 23:20 ..

-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 6126 8 Jul 20:03 XProtect.meta.plist

-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 70276 8 Jul 20:03 XProtect.plist

-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 22693 8 Jul 20:03 XProtect.yara

and it looks 6 weeks old... maybe it's ok.

I am puzzled. You are showing the current information for the individual XProtect files (again, same as me), but the install date from above is showing the end of April in 2015. Is that the result of my second command sequence that I posted earlier?

Here is the System Preferences : App Store settings that I use. The second checkmark includes the GateKeeper and XProtect data.

I have OS X 10.11.6 installed with all updates selected for app installation per system preferences. When I looked at my installation log per system profile, I could not find any of the following files that were referenced about for the same OS X installation:

MRT Configuration Data

Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data

Gatekeeper Configuration Data

Core Services Application Configuration Data

Why would I be missing these files if I have the same OS X installed? How do I install them? What is the effect of not having them installed? Why would this occur on my end?

Thanks.

Kevin
