Q: Properly synching iPhone with new MacBook Air

Greetings!

Pardon the length, but I want to make sure this gets done properly. My son has an iPhone 5s that is currently paired with and backed up to iTunes on my MacBook Pro, under my Apple ID. He will be leaving for college and got a MacBook Air and would like to pair it with iTunes on that computer, under HIS Apple ID, which is associated with my ID as part of Family Sharing.

He's logged in to iTunes successfully on the Air, and started to do a backup of his iPhone 5s to it. We're getting a message that a bunch of music could not be backed up because the MacBook Air is not authorized for those songs. This music was purchased with my Apple ID, so shouldn't it be available to him under Family Sharing? The only option appears to be to erase the music and re-sync, which would result in losing music.

What's the best way for him to move all of his devices to HIS Apple ID on HIS MacBook Air, while still retaining access to music that was purchased under MY Apple ID? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Pertinents: MacBook Pro 13", 2.5GHz i5, El Capitan; 13" MacBook Air; iPhone 5s, all OS's up to date
