thankyou for reply,it says device not found, ipod can't be updated,need to restore to factory settings, will I lose everything if I do that? don't think I have backed ipod up or know how to do it,or if I can now ipod frozen :-0

Yes, you have to restore to factory settings/new iPod. Your iPod is erased now.
If no backup then there is no backup.
