Mac OS XWhatever the reason for corruption, it is as likely to be caused by a "virus" as it is to have been caused by alien invaders from a distant galaxy.
A far more mundane and much more common occurrence is that the hard disk drive containing the Recovery Partition has simply failed, especially if it's as old as the rest of your Mac Pro. In that case reinstalling OS X will not be successful, and the drive must be replaced first.

DesktopsMy guess is the Norton falsely identified a system file as a virus/trojan and removed it.
That does happens sometimes. That is one reason why antivirus is not recommended.
To fix you will have to reinstall Lion.
If you Mac works download from the Purchase sections of the Mac App store and run it and reinstall over existing Lion installation.

Mac OS XSo Norton hosed your Recovery Partition? Nice.
If you want your Mac to work, don't use such things. Read Effective defenses against malware and other threats.
