Q: If I delete photos from my iPhone will they remain in iPhoto/Photos on my Mac?

I am attempting to free up space on my iPhone by deleting pictures, etc. If I delete pics from my iPhone will they remain in iPhoto on my iMac and iPad? Also, if later I would like to import a picture from my iMac or iPad to my iPhone, is that possible.

I am totally confused on what the difference is between iPhoto and Photos. Can you explain that to me?

Yes, they will still be in iPhoto or Photos if you delete from your phone. iPhotos is the previous version of the Mac OS X photos application. You may be thinking of iCloud which synchronizes between the two but just importing you can delete from phone once you copy over to iPhoto or Photos and keep them safe while you free up space on the phone. It's also a great idea to back them up with TimeMachine in the event you loose them on your iphoto or Photo app or your drive goes bad.
