2 text messaging apps running I only want one

Hi, I recently got an iPhone SE. I had a droid. I installed the Verizon messaging app so I could keep my old text messages. However, imessage will not turn off. It is off but is still getting texts, so I'm getting texts to both apps and it's driving me crazy! I don't care which app I use, so I either need to uninstall imessaging or import my Verizon messages to imessaging. Help? Thanks, Bekah

The app is Messages. iMessages is Apple's version of free text messaging that works over the Internet, rather than over cellular networks.

When you turned iMessages off, you turned off only that functionality. Regular texts are still enabled.

Mmessages is integrated deeply into iOS and other apps, including Notifications. My advice would be to keep Messages and stop using the proprietary Verizon app.
