Q: How do I tell if my 27" monitor is Thunderbolt?

Just bought a mid 2012 Mac Pro desktop.  When I connected the display to the mini port, the screen remained black.  When I connected it to my Macbook pro mid-2012 it works fine.  I don't know how to tell if the monitor is Thunderbolt or not.  Can someone please advise me?

Thanks, Joel Williams

    With the display connected...

On your Mac click your Apple  menu top left in your screen.

From the drop down menu click  About This Mac >  System Report.

If it's a Thunderbolt Display you will see Thunderbolt under Hardware just above USB.

The Thunderbolt monitor has the cable permanently attached to the monitor and has a Thunderbolt receptacle on the monitir together with Ethernet, FW 800 and three USB ports.

The plug should have lighening icon at the end. A mini displayport plug has a monitor screen icon. It also has a MagSafe cable to charge a Mac laptop
