Q: ***New Router/Modem = Time Capsule Keeps Disappearing**

The cable/internet/phone company came out yesterday and replaced our existing modem with a newer model that's a modem/router combo (Arris TG1682G) and it's been a mess ever since. Previously, I'd been using the Time Capsule for wifi and want to continue.

-The tech said both units would broadcast and I'd have to start setup from scratch. I confirmed Double NAT in AirPort Utilities. Logged into the Arris via IP and turned off router abilities. This seemingly solved the problem.

-Today, though, TC was blinking yellow. AirPort Utilities revealed it wasn't connected to the internet (despite WAN/LAN connection to Arris). Further confusing, I was still able to get wifi through the network/pw from my TC.

-Disabled wifi on my laptop and physically connected to TC, but couldn't get AirPort Utilities to find (or recognize in "other devices") the TC. Eventually did a soft reset. TC was recognized and I restored previous settings. Problem was fixed. Confirmed with a wireless backup.

-Tried to print something over wifi just now (~3 hours after my "fix") and realized that AirPort says "device not found" BUT 1) the light on the TC is solid green, and 2) am again connected to my wifi network.

I'm thoroughly confused at this point and could really appreciate some help!

The problem you are experiencing is likely to be compounded by the fact that Apple has been experiencing Back to My Mac problems that have manifested themselves in an inability for any version of AirPort Utility — its OS X or iOS versions —  to find your Time Capsule. The symptoms you describe are consistent with that problem. Apparently Apple knows about it, but it wouldn't hurt if you were to contact them and tell them about it: Contact Support

There is a workaround: on your Mac, open AirPort Utility and select File > Configure Other...

Provide your Time Capsule's IP address (its default is 10.0.1.1) and its password (sorry, but only you can know that information). Then, under the Base Station tab, remove any entries in Back to My Mac, and click Update. That should restore your Time Capsule's appearance in AirPort Utility, as well as Time Machine's ability to back up to it.

If that seems to imply you won't be able to use Back to My Mac until Apple fixes it, you're right.
