You may not be experiencing a problem now but third party anti virus software such as Sophos is problematic. Third party anti virus software can slow your Mac to a crawl.

Aside from that, your Mac is running a very outdated OS X v10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

See if your Mac meets El Capitan requirements > Upgrade to OS X El Capitan

With El Capitan installed your Mac would have > About System Integrity Protection on your Mac

I see you have a Lexmark scanner. Prior to upgrading visit the Lexmark website to see if they offer v10.11 El Capitan drivers you can download.

You shouldn't have any issues with Fitbit on El Capitan.
