Q: Why does our Apple iMac slow down the internet on other devices around it?

We have an iMac in our office that we use occasionally for graphic design work. This is pretty odd, but we've noticed that whenever we turn on the wifi on the Mac, everyone else's internet connection around the room starts to suffer. The whole team experiences regular drop offs in connectivity and when the internet does work it is incredibly slow.

The moment we disable the wifi connection on the Mac, the internet returns to normal speeds with no drop offs on everyone else's devices.

We have 4 macbooks and another iMac being used in the same room and we have no problems with those - it's just this one iMac that seems to be disrupting or hogging the internet connection when we switch it on.

I've never encountered this kind of problem before so just wondered if anyone has any idea what could be causing it?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

    More info please.

    How old is the iMac...?

What wireless router are the Mac's connecting to...?

One solution if possible, would be to shift some of the Mac's (including the hog) over from Wi-Fi to a wired ethernet connection.
