Hi, I want to change HDD in my MBP October 2009 and from the ones available today I chose
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, MZ-75E500B
I would like to know if its compatible with my MBP (Oct 2009, 8GB RAM, current HDD SATA 250GB Hitachi)

It will be compatible with your MBP but you will not realize its full potential of the SSD due to the fact that your MBP has SATA2 connectivity (the SSD is SATA3). However there will be a very noticeable performance difference improvement anyway.

Thank you! I know about the limitation of SATA2, just wasnt sure my MBP can handle this HDD or if it will fit in there :-)

I have identical SDDs (Crucial) in a 2010 MBP and a late 2011 MBP. If you run the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test App, the differences are very apparent due to the differences in SATA connectivity. However in actual daily usage, one does not notice any real difference in performance using non-intensive applications.

Hm, I primarily want the new HDD for size as I am near the limit of the 250GB one I have but I hoped that it will also have an impact on the speed of the computer (loading time of apps etc...). So in day to day work you have not noticed any difference after using the SSD HDD?

You may have misunderstood the point I was trying to make. The performance differences with the same SSD in a SATA2 vs a SATA3 MBP will not be significant in 'day to day' use. That will not be the case with resource intensive applications.

Ok, I got you wrong... now I get your point. Did a little more searching and I have found this disc. compared to Samsung it has way more space but I dont know whether to trust this brand...
Any recommendations or experience with Seagate?

That drive will be significantly slower than any SSD.
Why? or another option i found is Lenovo TC 500GB, 2,5", 0B47317
I am not expert on computers, I just want the best disc for sensible amount of money. My min capacity is 480GB, the rest is the best possible for acceptable money. I don't do any difficult graphic editing or any hardcore video rendering, just regular computer work use. I am getting lost... please help :-)

Because is not an SSD, it is an HDD (with a bit of SSD attached) which is why it is cheaper, larger and slower.
The Lenovo is an SSD and should be as fast as any other SSD. IE faster than any HDD (with or without a tiny SSD attached)
I had Seagate SSHDs in two of my MBPs for about a year and based on the modest price difference compared with a conventional HDD, I thought it was worth the extra cost. Understand that the performance increases will be only evident on frequently used applications or functions such as boot and shutdown times. After all, its flash portion is only 8 GB.
If the budget is limited, it presents a good option but as my colleague csound1 says, it still will be much slower than a true SSD. Having experienced an SSD in everyday use, I would never go back to the old technology (HDD) in a boot drive. I do find HDDs very acceptable for external storage.

ok, after your kind help, i guess I am down to either Samsung or Lenovo. Lenovo is almost 30% cheaper so if there are no significant differences between those two, Lenovo seems like a good option. Money is not an issue in itself, I just hate to spend money for something that has no value.
Thats why I don't buy vintage cloth, I am more than willing to spend for quality, not at all willing to spend for a "label" or marketing :-) So I love to buy stuff of high quality for good price. Regardless of brand...
In practice the Lenovo will be exactly the same speed as the Samsung, but less expensive. So clearly it is the better buy of the two.

You're welcome.
Get the Samsung Evo 850 SSD. It is backward compatible with Sata-2.
Or you could get the OCZ trion 150-series SSD.
Just remember to enable trim support for your non-owc SSD.
Open "terminal app" and enter this command. "sudo trimforce enable"
You will be much happier with an SSD than a Slow rotational hard-drive.
