Q: Why can't I download new pictures to an old ipad?

I have a first generation ipad that I have been using as a picture frame.

I created an album specifically to download to this ipad.

Now that I have new pictures that I want to display, I cannot download them to the ipad.

Is there some setting that I am missing?

What do you mean by download? And download from where? You can use Photo Stream to move the photos from the newer device to the old iPad as long as the old iPad is running iOS 5.1. Are you running iOS 5.1?

If you are, on your old iPad go to Settings>iCloud>Photo Stream>On. On the newer iPad if running iOS 9 or higher go to Settings>iCloud>Photos>My Photo Stream>On.

Remember that only the photos that you take after you enable photo stream will appear on the other devices. Existing photos will not appear in the Photo Stream.

Thank you for the response.  Unfortunately, I have already tried those steps.

To further confound me, I created a new album with a different name thinking that might help.  The new album doesn't show up in itunes as a possibility to download to the ipad.

Thank you for your response.  My apologies if my terminology is dated.

I am looking to sync/transfer my old ipad (IOS version 5.1.1) with itunes so that I can continue to use it as a picture frame to display all of my photos.  It is as if something isn'y connected between itunes and photos.  I say this because I can create new albums with the pictures that I want on the ipad in them.  But when I sync the ipad using itunes I cannot select those albums to be transferred to the ipad because they are not visible.

Albums that you create on an iPad do not contain copies of the photos that you add to them. They only contain pointers or shortcuts to the photos in the camera roll which makes them appear in the albums. Therefore, those albums do not really exist anywhere except on the device on which they are created and can not be synced using iTunes or transfered off of the iPad.

I plug my ipad generation one into my imac.  Doing so opens both photos and itunes.

In the past I was able to simply add the pictures that I wanted to display into an album entitled ipad pics.  Then I would sync the ipad and the new pics would be available for viewing.

Now, when I make changes to the album they are not reflected in itunes, nor are new albums that I have made to take the place of the old.  And thusly cannot download any new pictures to the ipad.

    Demo,

Thank you for working on this with me.

I create the albums in photos and then send them to the ipad with itunes.  At least that is what I used to be able to do.  Now any changes that I make in photos, isn't reflected in itunes and thusly cannot be sent to the ipad via syncing.

OK. Now I understand better. I know nothing about Photos for Mac. I am running El Capitan but I stuck with iPhoto because it still works under EC.I read something earlier today about the Photos app that I don't know. Since you are using Photos, you may know this better than I do.

In the in article that 000FFF posted, it says this. Could this be the source of the problem?

If you're syncing from Photos, only your System Photo Library is available in iTunes.
