kernel_task taking up 5gb of ram?
MacBook Pro
Hello Mr.Hohum,
Try to remove that antivirus software. The restart, and see how it runs.
a restart set it back under 1gb without the anti virus being turned off. guess i didnt restart it for a while. any way to prevent it from eating 5gb of ram though in the future? maybe a way to limit it or something? i just dont want this to happen one day while im doing an essay or something, and have a problem arise.
Hello again Mr.Hohum,
You have to uninstall any 3rd party kernel extensions that are likely to cause it. Your antivirus is most likely to be the culprit, but it could be anything. It could also be some cloud backup tool. But you can't determine that without first eliminating the most likely candidates.
ok thanks. if this happens again ill do that, but until then ill just restart every coups of weeks, or whenever it begans to get to 3.
