Q: What software version should I upgrade to?
I have an older MacBook Pro currently running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8.... It has been out of date for a while and I want to proceed with an upgrade. I have a 2.53 GHz Inter Core 2 Duo Processor.... and Memory is 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 L2 Cache is 6MB. I'm not sure that my system can handle El Capitan. I have been trying to download it (for well over 24 hours now), but it keeps timing out and I'm thinking it will never happen. I know a new laptop may be the best suggestion, but I am trying to work with what I have at present. Any help/suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated.

Apple menu > About This Mac tells you what version of MacBook Pro you have.
If your MacBook Pro is mid2009 MacBook Pro, El Capitan capable system.
